History

The National Black Catholic Seminarians Association, (NBCSA) was founded in 1970 by the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus to provide support and fellowship for African-American Catholic seminarians in the United States.

Today, the NBCSA seeks to contribute to the well-being of candidates for priesthood and religious brotherhood, with an emphasis on Black American, African, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Latino candidates. Our interests, however, extend to the broader formation community as it seeks to promote knowledge of and apostolic works in the Black Catholic community. Moreover, promoting vocations has become central to the identity and mission of NBCSA.

We remain an affiliate entity of the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus and also cooperate with the National Black Sisters' Conference, the National Association of Black Catholic Deacons, the National Black Catholic Congress, and the National Association of Black Catholic Administrators.
